— On Monday, golfers were greeted by visions of snow-covered fairways, but that didn’t stop them from getting back out on the course and back in the swing last weekend during the Cobweb Classic.

The two-day tournament, formally known as the Sunrise Tournament, took place May 22 and 23 at the Haymaker Golf Course and featured a mixed format with teams of two competing in a scramble on the first day and a best ball the next. The top teams were recognized in gross and net divisions.

Tom Preissing and Scott Polaski shot a gross score of 137 to take top honors in the tournament. The team just edged Steve Dodson and Butch Boucher, who finished the 36-hole tournament in second place at 138, and Chris Lanham and Bob Stahl, who finished third with a two-day score of 140.

Mike Graham and Rob Pecoraro topped the net division with a score of 121. Randy Nelson and Kevin Rusk finished second with a total score of 122, and Gary Gurney and Mark Fischer were third at 127.

Molly Orr and Jaquie Lewis, the only women’s team, had a net score of 140.

Director of golf Luke Brosterhous said the event was the perfect way to kick off the season at Haymaker and get local golfers back into golfing mode.

The course also plans to host the New Moon Two-Person Glowball Tournament in July and the Haymaker Fall Classic and the Old School Open, where the golfers’ equipment must be at least 15 years old. The New Moon and Old School events are scheduled for September.

The Steiner Cup Match Play event will take place again this summer at Haymaker. Golfers will go head to head in an elimination-style tournament that will run all summer. The deadline to enter is June 7, and play will begin shortly after that date.

The Colorado Junior Golf Association will offer younger golfers a chance to compete at Haymaker on June 21 and 22 during the Haywhacker Junior Stroke Play tournament.

Haymaker also will invite juniors back out for the Haymaker Junior Championships on Aug. 3 and the Parent Junior Championships on Aug. 8.

Things will come to a close with a pair of tournaments in October: the Last Go Around on Oct. 2 and 3 and the Halloween Final-Final on Oct. 31.
