Hayden welding program gives students options
Hayden High School senior Kyle Barrett said a scheduling error his sophomore year was the best thing that could have happened to him. Barrett had signed up to take auto mechanics, but instead, he found himself in Kevin Kleckler’s welding class. “I ended up finding what I love and want to do in life,” he said.

Hayden High School senior Jake Walker crossed the finish line with a lunge, his arms stretched forward and his face twisted into a knot in what was definitely his final high school race and might be his last competitive race.
Joel Reichenberger: Sports aren’t everything
The best runner at my high school was named Paul. I met Paul during his junior year, and he was a very funny guy and a nice guy, even to a scrawny freshman some of his buddies picked on. He was the fastest guy on the cross-country team and one of the best on the track and field squad.
Oak Creek pipe issues persist
Breaks likely will continue as ground starts to thaw
One after another, the pipes are bursting in Oak Creek. On Monday, 170,000 gallons of water spewed out of the ground. The Friday before that, it took crews working until 4 a.m., and then another 10 hours Saturday, to fix a leaky section of pipe. Public Works Director Bob Redding said it’s not likely to stop any time soon.

Women start Ski Town Stroller Yoga classes in Steamboat Springs
Kaela Miller and Jenn Warren-Boisjoli came up with the idea of Ski Town Stroller Yoga after doing yoga together. Each just had a child and thought the idea would work well in Steamboat. The classes begin with 15 minutes of warm-up yoga. That’s followed by a 30-minute walk or run with the babies in the stroller and then another 15 or 20 minutes of yoga and stretching.

St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Oak Creek gets renewal, blessing
Today, on Pentecost, celebrated by many as the birth of the Christian Church, one church in Oak Creek will be blessed on a rebirth of its own. The St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church will have a special visit from Archbishop Charles Chaput, of Denver, to celebrate nine months of work completely renovating the building on Sharp Avenue.

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association is hosting two upcoming mixers. A business after-hours mixer for Chamber members and their guests is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elk River Crossing on Curve Plaza. The event includes free food and drinks, prizes from local businesses and networking.

A property auction at the Routt County Courthouse this week illustrated the thin line in today’s distressed home market between losing one’s home to foreclosure and salvaging a portion of one’s credit rating. Steamboat Springs Realtor Denise Cantafio was frustrated Wednesday when her clients’ log home in Stagecoach was claimed by the original lender in a public trustee’s sale.
