Steamboat Springs The green flag drops Saturday on the Hayden Speedway’s 2010 racing season. The quarter-mile track will feature 10 races throughout a four-month season that ends Sept. 11.
“It’s racing. I’m excited no matter what,” said Carolyn Gochee, the Speedway’s public relations director. “It should be a fun season. We’ve had more out-of-town drivers calling us and interested than in the past.”
Interested drivers are encouraged to attend a drivers meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Golden Cavvy Restaurant in Craig. There, drivers can pay their final dues, sign the code of conduct and get a race schedule for the year.
Those unable to attend can still register their cars the day of the race. For Saturday’s opener, Gochee said they are asking racers to show up at 10 a.m. to register. Day-of registration for the rest of the season most likely will take place at 1 p.m.
“We want to get as much of the paperwork taken care of prior to race day,” she said. “But drivers can sign up anytime throughout the season.”
In addition to the 10 races, the Speedway has undergone several changes. The spectator viewing area has been modified, Turn 1 has been redone, and the parking area in the pits has been reconfigured.
One of the big events this season will be the July 9 and 10 IMCA Modified Showdown. The light and fast cars make for eventful racing around the quarter-mile track.
Admission cost at the Speedway is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Season passes are available for $65, and Junior Fan Club season passes are $10 and include a shirt.
