State to pay $70K for officers to direct cars

Police officers, though part of the regular agencies that cover Routt County, are working extra hours to direct traffic, and the contract between the Colorado Department of Transportation and the contractor calls for at least $70,000 during the course of the project, CDOT spokeswoman Nancy Shanks said.

Steamboat track, soccer, baseball games rescheduled

Bad weather delayed several events. Friday’s track meet in Craig, including Steamboat Springs, Soroco and Hayden high schools, was moved to Monday. The girls soccer game scheduled for Thursday against Glen­wood Springs will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Glenwood. The Steamboat boys baseball game scheduled for today against Eagle Valley has been canceled and could be played early next week instead.

Sailors tennis earns win Friday back after tourney setbacks

They were hardly the days the Steamboat Springs High School girls wanted. The tennis squad stumbled while facing some of its toughest competition of the season Thursday and Friday at a tournament at Mullen High School.

Steamboat-based editor of Paddling Life magazine, Eugene Buchanan, and his wife, Denise, have been through it all with their two daughters. This month, Eugene came out with a book on the subject of introducing kids to a life in the outdoors: “Outdoor Parents, Outdoor Kids.”

Promenade committee works to squeeze most out of $4.5M budget

Construction on the pedestrian promenade at the base of Steamboat Ski Area could begin as soon as Wednesday after the committee advising the city on the project reached consensus this week on how to accomplish the most it can this summer within its $4.5 million budget.

Steamboat briefs: Group seeking applicants for Ann Copeland award

The Northwest Colorado Products Board of Directors has announced the new Ann Copeland Emerging Producer Award. This award is named after Ann Copeland, a NWCP board member who passed away in July 2009, according to a news release.
