Project renews urban boundary discussion in Steamboat

West View Center would necessitate zoning change and include commercial activity

The Routt County Board of Commissioners is expected to give a preliminary review April 13 to West View Center, a proposal to build a commercial building, gas pumps and seven townhomes on the south side of U.S. Highway 40 between the Heritage Park soccer fields and Steamboat Golf Club.

Grant to help identify safe routes to school in Steamboat

County, city and school district partnership wins federal funds

A recently awarded grant is intended to help Steamboat kindergarten through eighth-grade students get to school safely. The Colorado Department of Transportation awarded Routt County, the city of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs School District a $16,500 Safe Routes to School grant for 2010.

Skate-a-thon a party on ice

Annual event to benefit autism program, will also recognize Autism Awareness Month

An ice skating party Saturday will bring awareness to National Autism Awareness Month and raise money for programs and services for local families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Yampa Valley Autism Pro­gram hosts its third annual skate-a-thon fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Howelsen Ice Arena.

Experts: Water quality not threatened by corpses

Authorities are investigating why 11 cows showed up dead in the Yampa River near Hayden, but river experts say the animals should not affect the water quality. Routt County resident Linda Bernhardt said she was fishing Saturday near the Yampa River Wildlife Area when she saw the animals in the river.
