— All Crimes Enforcement Team Cmdr. Garrett Wiggins announced Tuesday that he has re-entered the race for Routt County sheriff as planned.

Wiggins temporarily exited the race because of the possibility of violating the Hatch Act, a federal provision that prohibits federal employees from running for office. Wiggins wrote in a news release that the final report from a federal grant was filed March 25, and he officially re-entered the race.

“I knew my decision to withdraw from the race could negatively affect my chances of being elected as the next sheriff of Routt County, but I felt I had an obligation to the citizens to maintain honesty and transparency throughout the process,” he wrote.

Thanks Garrett. I look forward to your maintaining honesty and transparency but we'll be lucky if Gary Wall runs for and wins another term.

Gary has been honest and transparent all along. His moderate approach to law enforcement exemplifies what we need in our sheriff.
