Steamboat Springs High School senior Hanna Kurowski was named the Optimist Club of Steamboat Springs’ Teen of the Month for March.
Kurowski, a senior, carries a 4.0 GPA and has been a member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year. She is a four-year member of the high school’s tennis team and has been involved in Dance Showcase for the past two years. This year, she choreographed an African dance and participated in three other pieces.
At the high school, Kurowski is a member of the leadership class, honor council, culture club and peer aid group. She also created an event called Tweens to Teens to help strengthen the relationships between eighth grade and high school girls.
Outside of school, she is a member of the youth group and choir at Holy Name Catholic Church, volunteer for the Yampa Valley Science School, a volunteer at the Community Thankgiving Dinner and each year helps her mother organize a mother-daugher event.
Kurowski has indicated her interest in attending Colorado College in Colorado Springs, the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, or Saint Mary’s College of California. Eventually, she would like to go to Africa, to teach or work as a doctor.
Harris named to Phillips Academy winter honor roll
Marilyn N. Harris, of Steamboat Springs, was named to the winter term honor roll at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. She is a junior.
