Lowell Whiteman board selects new head of school

Steamboat Springs — The Lowell Whiteman School Board of Trustees announced a successor for Head of School Walt Daub, who will retire in June.
Christopher Taylor, the interim head of school at The Independent School in Wichita, Kan., will take over at Whiteman on June 30. Daub announced his plans to retire earlier this year. He joined Whiteman in 1998.
Taylor joined The Independent School after four years as headmaster of the Episcopal School of Acadiana, in south-central Louisiana. He and his wife, Ginger, have two grown sons, one of whom lives and works in Steamboat Springs.
Whiteman’s Board of Trustees also announced the hiring of Derek Svennungsen, who will serve as the school’s director of admissions. Svennungsen, who has served in the same capacity for the Midland School in Los Olivos, Calif.; will start at Whiteman on July 1.
Daub also served as Whiteman’s director of admissions after the position was combined with the duties of the head of school before the school year began.
