Organizer hopes volunteers will plant 20,000 trees June 26
Like the 12,000 trees he bought from the state forest service, Tristan Frolich’s idea to help Routt County forests recover from the bark beetle epidemic just keeps growing. Frolich is the organizer of Re-tree Colorado, an event planned for June 26 in which he hopes as many as 400 volunteers will plant 20,000 trees at sites across the county.

Steamboat Briefs: Lodging to top 60 percent in Steamboat this weekend
Steamboat Springs could host 10,585 visitors this weekend, or about 61 percent of lodging capacity, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s weekly lodging barometer. The Chamber is projecting 75 percent capacity in downtown hotels and nearly 70 percent capacity in hotels at the base of Steamboat Ski Area, with about 55 percent capacity in base area condominiums
Longtime champion sitting out Steamboat Pentathlon, leaves 1st place open
The March 15 deadline came and with it went good news for any competitor hoping to win the 19th annual Steamboat Springs Pentathlon. Michael Kloser, the racer who has dominated the Pentathlon for the past decade, did not sign up to compete and defend his men’s standard course title.
Resident swims 1 million yards at Old Town Hot Springs
In May, longtime Steamboat Springs resident John Ward jumped into the lap pool at Old Town Hot Springs and began working toward a personal goal, 5,000 yards at a time. Ward started working toward that goal in May and had reached his goal of 1 million yards by Feb. 14 — well ahead of his May 2010 deadline.
Wounded veterans to participate in potluck, snowmobile trip
Russ Lambert doesn’t personally know any members of the military, but he still has gratitude for the sacrifices soldiers make. Lambert, the general manager at Steamboat Lake Outfitters, along with Rocky Mountain Rentals, will bring eight wounded veterans to North Routt on Friday and Saturday for Operation Healing Snow.

Hayden won’t renew Rockhold’s contract
School Board votes not to approve superintendent for next school year
Greg Rockhold will not be the Hayden School District superintendent in 2010-11. The School Board on Wednesday night unanimously voted “no” when Rockhold’s contract came up for approval.
