The Steamboat Springs High School baseball team started its weekend with a win Friday, knocking off Paonia, 18-0.

Sailors junior pitcher Alan Capistron threw a two-hitter to lead the team to the win. He also smashed a home run to help spark the offense.

Brandon Clark, meanwhile, added two home runs on three hits. He collected five RBIs. Carson Becker had two hits and an RBI. Matt Watwood had two doubles and three RBIs, Ryan Hall had three singles, and Tyler Brown had two hits and an RBI.

“We played very well on Friday,” Steamboat coach Dave Roy said.

The Sailors dropped the two games after that win, falling 8-2 to Resurrection Christian on Friday and 11-0 to Cedaredge on Saturday.

“We played very well against Resurrection, too. All and all, Friday was super,” Roy said. “Saturday we could not handle the ball, and we gave up seven unearned runs on six errors. Still, I came away from the weekend feeling very good about this team. We have some things to address, but our pitching looks good, and now we need to stiffen up our defense.”
