Hurt Routt County man picked up by Flight for Life helicopter

A 44-year-old Routt County man was taken from the North Routt backcountry by a Flight For Life helicopter Saturday night after injuring his leg in a snowmobiling accident. The group of four Routt County men, described as experienced snowmobilers, were riding in the Quaker Mountain.

The gusting winds that closed Steamboat Ski Area lifts Sunday morning are not forecast to return early this week. The National Weather Ser­vice office in Grand Junction is forecasting sunny skies and temperatures in the 40s for today and Tuesday, with “calm” winds of less than 10 mph both days.

North Routt Coureur des Bois proves popular, challenging
