Steamboat party caucuses set for Tuesday
Saturday, March 13, 2010
Steamboat Springs Routt County Democratic and Republican party leaders are urging registered members of their parties to attend Tuesday night’s caucuses at locations across the county.
At their core, party caucuses represent politics at the grass-roots level. Attendees will elect a caucus chair and secretary who will preside over each precinct-level meeting. Attendees also will vote on their preferred choices for contested races within their parties.
For the November election, those contested party races include a U.S. Senate seat, Colorado governor and other elected positions, depending on the number of candidates vying for those seats in each party. For example, seven Republicans are seeking the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Michael Bennet. Caucus results from across the state Tuesday will help narrow that field.
Also at the caucuses, voters will discuss local, state and national issues that could become part of their party’s platform.
All caucus meetings start at 7 p.m. Tuesday, regardless of party or precinct. Party leaders suggest attendees show up to their precinct locations no later than 6:45 p.m. to register.
Call the Routt County Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 970-870-5556 to check what precinct you’re a part of. For more detailed information about Tuesday’s caucuses, check out Monday’s Steamboat Today.
