Weak weekend forecast in Steamboat

More visitors expected at month’s end; lodging rates are down

The resort community will endure a weak spot in the March calendar this weekend, but tourism could be closer to normal March 13 to 14, and there’s one more crescendo to come the weekend of March 27 to 28. “This weekend is a soft one for us,” said Mike Lomas, vice president and general manager at The Steamboat Grand.

Steamboat Springs High School girls tennis team opened its season Friday with a pair of victories at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs. Relying on a pieced-together lineup, the Sailors team took four of seven matches.

Hockey roundup: 3 Sailors earn All-Star hockey game slots

Three Steamboat Springs High School senior hockey players were selected to play in today’s Colorado High School Activities Association Senior All-Star game. Steamboat’s Ian Anderson, Jon Winkelblech and Vladan Chase were chosen to play in the game.

Steamboat’s DeGrandis 6th on men’s side at freestyle event

Revenge was served Friday at Steamboat Ski Area as a pair of freestyle skiers who suffered through miserable runs Thursday rebounded to win Friday’s events, wrapping up the two-day NorAm Cup freestyle skiing stop in Steamboat Springs. U.S. Ski Team member Heidi Kloser won the women’s dual moguls event Friday.

The bridge over Trout Creek on Routt County Road 33 (Twentymile Road) will be closed Monday until June 1, said Paul Draper, Routt County Road and Bridge Department supervisor.

Census workers going door to door in Steamboat

Employees will drop off census questionnaires all month long

The 70-person-strong work force of Census 2010 is making its way to each home in Routt County as the push begins to get questionnaires to each house — and hopefully get them back. Routt County is one of the few places in the nation where census workers go door to door throughout the county instead of mailing the questionnaires.
