Local election judges are processing and scanning ballots in the city election on Steamboat 700, but no results will be known until after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Election judges are opening envelopes, double-checking ballot counts and scanning ballots, but they have no access to vote results.

Steamboat skiers pick up podium spots on Day 1 of Junior Olympics

If the U.S. national team proved Steamboat Springs is a breeding ground for Nordic combined success, the opening day of the 2010 Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Junior Olympics simply confirmed it. The Rocky Mountain Division picked up 11 podium finishes Thursday.

Paintings in Bonnie McGee's portion of “Prelude to Spring,” the March show at Artists’ Gallery of Steamboat, are scenes from Rocky Mountain National Park. The show also features oil pastel work by Leslie Bell and monoprint pieces by Maggie Smith.

Losses tallied in alleged HOA embezzlement

The Loggers Lane Owners Association is tallying its losses after officials say money was embezzled from the group’s coffers. Initial reports indicate $57,000 was stolen from an account.

Yampa Public Works Director Eric Berry said his secret to creating the best-tasting water is simple: nothing. The water in Yampa, straight from the Flat Tops and through a ground source about a mile south of town, has been named the tastiest water in Colorado by the Colorado Rural Water Association.

Steamboat Springs Running Series returns early

5-mile Pentathlon Tune-up to help runners stretch legs Saturday at Howelsen Hill

The past year has brought a continuous wave of success for the Steamboat Springs Running Series. Week after week during the summer it set participation records and then had nearly 80 runners for its first nonsummer event, a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot.

Wintry stained glass, intricate wildlife paintings and hand-colored landscape photos are among the art styles featured in this month’s First Friday Artwalk. Twenty-seven downtown venues host receptions today for artists with local ties. All events are free and most are from 5 to 8 p.m.

South Routt School District hosts budget workshop

About 60 South Routt School District staff, parents and community members attended a School Board budget workshop Thursday night. The workshop took on a town hall meeting feel with a question-and-answer session, a presentation of a rough draft of the 2010-11 school year budget and an exercise.

Steamboat briefs: City Hall to be open today and Saturday for voting

Steamboat Springs City Hall, 137 10th St., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday so residents can drop off their ballots on the Steamboat 700 annexation. City Hall will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, the final day of voting. All ballots must be received by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
