Where: Yampa Town Hall, 56 Lincoln Ave., Yampa
Steamboat Springs The Yampa Town Board is scheduled to discuss tonight whether the town needs to cancel its April municipal election for the third consecutive time.
During a Yampa Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. today at Yampa Town Hall, Town Clerk Janet Ray plans to update the board on the number of petitioners seeking to join the board.
The mayoral seat held by Bruce Pitts and the Town Board seats of Mike Lewis, Lacy Trout and Karen Tussey will be up for election this year. The seats of Town Board members Jeff Drust, Tom Yackey and Paul Zywicki will be up for election in 2012.
Ray said the board would not take any action during the meeting because although the petition deadline is Friday, the final deadline for write-in candidates is March 17.
If, by that time, there are not more candidates than offices, the election will be canceled. Ray said several petitions are being circulated but that she has not distributed more petitions than there are positions.
There are no other items scheduled to appear on the ballot, Ray said.
Elections are held every two years in Yampa, but in 2008, 2006 and 2004 the elections were canceled.
The Town Board also is scheduled to discuss updating building permit codes to mirror Routt County Regional Building Department’s changes and will consider re-approving the beer-selling license for Montgomery’s General Merchandise store.
In the public works report, board members are scheduled to hear updates about two water line breaks in February and an update on the Feb. 22 incident where a snow plow driver reportedly hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian reportedly had minor injuries and was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center by car.
