Steamboat 10-and-young team loses 2 games Friday

— A Steamboat Springs team consisting of local Little League players lost two games Friday in the Triple Crown Mountain Magic tournament.

Steamboat lost 10-3 to Golden and 11-7 to West Jefferson.

“The first couple of games last weekend, they looked like a deer in the headlights,” coach Mike Larson said. “We’re actually were giving Golden and West Jefferson tight, well played games. The learning curve has been remarkably steep.”

The team played in a Mountain Magic tournament last weekend and lost multiple times.

But the team made massive improvements, Larson said.

Larson and assistant coach Pat McElhiney decided to form the team to get better competition. Despite having played in just two tournaments, the team is improving each day, Larson said.

The team resumes play at 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. today at Howelsen.
