Steamboat Springs Firefighters from West Routt, Steamboat Springs and Oak Creek contained a 2- to 3-acre wildfire Monday afternoon on Routt County Road 68 in the Canyon Valley area near Mount Harris.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 1 p.m. Monday. West Routt Fire Protection Chief Bryan Rickman said the landowner accidentally started the fire with a cigarette.
Rickman said 15 firefighters and Routt County Emergency Manager Bob Struble responded to the fire. It took about an hour and half to contain the fire, which was burning on a hillside and came to within about 200 yards of a home. No structures were damaged, and firefighters remained on scene into the evening to douse hotspots.
