Yampa, Elk rivers rise even higher

Levels expected to remain elevated this week

The Yampa River in downtown Steamboat surged to 6.72 feet at about midnight Monday, with a flow of 4,317 cubic feet per second. The Elk River again was above flood stage, topping out at 7.95 feet at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. A flood advisory for the Elk has been extended to Thursday.

Yampa River crests at 7-year high in Steamboat

Elk River expected to peak this morning above flood stage

The Yampa River crested at 6.5 feet in downtown Steamboat Springs on Sunday, its highest level in seven years. The river dropped slightly Monday morning to just above 6 feet at the Fifth Street Bridge measuring site, but water levels were expected to rise again Monday night to 6.2 feet.
