Vail team wins Mountain League title with victory
In the three rounds the Steamboat Springs and Vail rugby clubs have waged this season, maybe none meant more than Saturday’s game at Whistler Field to decide the Mountain League championship. The two pre-eminent mountain town clubs — who each had one victory against the other this season — waged another heated battle on a sun-soaked field, with Vail deciding the game early in the second half en route to a 49-36 win.

CMC's Steamboat land purchase not closed as scheduled
CMC had planned to buy about 1.5 acres at 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue, but a clear title wasn't available by the July 30 closing date. CMC plans to locate an access road at the site.

Steamboat rugby club faces high stakes against rival
There might not be a better way to renew the Steamboat-Vail rugby rivalry than settling the 2010 Mountain League title. The two teams that have become the cream of the crop of mountain town rugby meet at 3 p.m. today at Whistler Field in Steamboat Springs. Steamboat lost to Vail, 12-0, earlier in the season.
Haymaker hosts junior golf championships
Junior golf will take center stage as Haymaker Golf Course hosts its annual Junior Championships next week, followed by its Parent-Junior Tournament the next weekend. The Haymaker Junior Championships will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the city-owned course.
Steamboat briefs: CNCC offers photography, consumer issues classes
Colorado Northwestern Community College is offering a digital photography class with instructor Greg Pieraccini from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Hayden High School. The $40 class will cover the basics of digital photography. Participants must register by Monday. Call 276-7291.

Summit County pot stores scramble for compliance
Local medical marijuana dispensary owners were scrambling this week to keep their doors open. Sunday is the deadline for the centers — as defined by new state laws — to apply for a state license. The next opportunity will be summer 2011.
