Jury awards $555,000 in Rabbit Ears vehicle crash
A Jefferson County jury has awarded a Lakewood man $555,000 in damages after a crash near Steamboat Springs in September 2008 reportedly left him with permanent neck pain.
Ryan Flaherty sued Steven Bigwood, the driver of the car in which Flaherty was a passenger, for unsafe driving after the car rolled five to six times.
Flaherty was represented by attorney Mark Gould, of Denver, and Richard Eddington, of Steamboat Springs.
The crash happened on the east side of Rabbit Ears Pass, but the court case was heard in Jefferson County.
According to a news release from Gould, the 23-year-old Flaherty will require constant medical care for the rest of his life from the injury to his neck.
The cartilage between bones on his neck reportedly wore away after the accident, causing permanent friction and pain.
Bigwood was ticketed by law enforcement officers as a result of the crash.
