The Steamboat Lake swim beach reopened Friday morning after closing for two days because of higher than acceptable levels of E. coli. The lake closed Wednesday after E. coli levels exceeded 235 organisms per 100 milliliters.
Park rangers hoped to have the lake open Wednesday, but a second test wasn’t done in time. The original test Wednesday showed high levels of E. Coli most likely because the test was done when high winds were blowing into the beach, park rangers said. This concentrated the particles in the area.
The swim beach and all other activities at Steamboat Lake are open through the weekend. Call Steamboat Lake State Park at 970-879-3922 with questions.
Robert Cash medically stable, being cared for
The Routt County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released a statement that Robert Cash, the Steamboat Springs man charged with first-degree attempted murder, is being cared for and is medically stable at Routt County Jail. Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Mellisa Baumgartner initially said Cash was somewhat incoherent, but she said Friday he was exhausted and that jail deputies did not want to make him stand to be booked into the jail immediately after he arrived.
Cash was transferred from the jail ward at Denver Health on Wednesday, and a contracted nurse will care for him while he is in custody at Routt County Jail.
