Hayden to host reception for departing Russ Martin

Steamboat Springs The Hayden Town Council is hosting a cake and punch reception tonight for Town Manager Russ Martin. It will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall, 178 W. Jefferson Ave. Martin, who joined Hayden in March 2004, accepted the town manager position with Camp Verde, Ariz. His last day is July 30.
Canning demonstration at farmers market Saturday
The CSU-trained master food safety advisers will demonstrate the art of canning pickles from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mainstreet Farmers Market. The demonstration will be in the Routt County Extension kitchen in the Routt County Courthouse Annex next to the market. Those who own pressure canners can bring them to be tested for safety. Youth football program registration is ongoing
The city of Steamboat Springs Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department is accepting registrations for the youth football program on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is for children in third through sixth grade and will run from mid-August through mid-October. Children entering third and fourth grade play flag, and those in fifth and sixth grade play tackle. The flag program has a $65 registration fee, and tackle is $100. Visit the Parks and Recreation office to complete a registration form or call 879-4300.
