Steamboat’s American Legion drops 2 games

Luke Graham

— The Steamboat Springs American Legion baseball team lost a pair of games during the weekend, falling, 16-14 and 18-8, to league-leading Eagle Valley.

The losses drop Steamboat to 6-4 in the Western Slope League.

The team resumed play Tuesday in Middle Park, but scores and statistics were not available by Tuesday evening.

In the first game against Eagle Valley, Steamboat fell behind early but battled back.

The team pushed across five runs in the sixth and seventh innings but left the bases load in the bottom of the seventh.

Colton Mahanna was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, Carson Becker had two hits and Michael Yost hit a two-run home run.

“It was one of those games where we fell behind and kept coming back,” Steamboat manager Dave Roy said. “We almost closed the gap but didn’t get it done.”

In the second game, Steamboat jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning before a ragged third inning.

In the bottom half of that frame, Eagle Valley batted around and scored seven runs. Eagle added six runs in the fourth inning to close out the game.

Brandon Clark highlighted the second game with a three-hit day, including two home runs. Kevin Finch was 2-for-3 and Tyler Brown, Thomas Kelly and Gaven Van Pelt each had a hit and an RBI.
