Intrawest debt for sale

Reports of auction churn after ads appear in national newspapers

Speculation about the future of Intrawest and its North American ski resorts swirled Wednesday after ads published in several major newspapers announced a public auction of lenders’ financial stakes in the company. The auction, scheduled for Feb. 19, would be for indirect ownership of property and stakes in Intrawest resorts including Steamboat Ski Area and Whistler Blackcomb, according to a Bloomberg report published late Wednesday.

After a drop in membership this season, club Director Rick DeVos said the club has rebounded and is operating at about the same level it did last year, thanks to a swarm of new Australian team members. They were told that if the Winter Olympics is the goal, there’s no launching pad like Steamboat Springs.

Bantam A hockey skates to 5-0 record in Colorado Springs

The Steamboat Springs Bantam A hockey team won the Colorado Cup in Colorado Springs during the weekend, compiling a 5-0 tournament record. Steamboat rolled the tournament, culminating in a 5-3 win Monday against the Colorado Springs Junior Tigers.

District Attorney's Office brings in 2 new hires to fill vacancies

During the months that the Routt County District Attorney’s Office was down by one or two attorneys, teamwork was a basic tenet of survival to get the work done. Now that the office is back to full staffing with two new faces, teamwork is a tradition they hope to continue, lead attorney Rusty Prindle said.

The results of today’s final World Cup event in Lake Placid, N.Y., will determine the makeup of the U.S. freestyle moguls ski team’s 2010 Olympics squad. It’s expected that four women and four men will be named to the team. The Olympic team officially will be announced Tuesday.

Hayden School District looks at larger shortfall

Survey will help School Board make decisions about cuts

The Hayden School District is looking at having to cut as much as a half-million dollars in its 2010-11 budget. The district initially had projected a $300,000 shortfall, but statewide cuts to K-12 education rumored to be near 10 percent — after the initial estimate of 6 percent — continue to increase the amount Hayden will have to cut in next school year’s budget.

Oak Creek Planning Commission recommends approval

The Oak Creek Planning Commission voted, 4-1, to recommend a land use change that would allow a medical marijuana dispensary to open in downtown Oak Creek. The vote came during a well-attended but relatively short meeting Wednesday night.

Saturday fundraiser to benefit 6-year-old with Burkitt’s lymphoma

For Steamboat Springs resident Lorraine Morrison, specific dates and times from the past several weeks have become jumbled. But she’ll always remember when she first got the call. It was, Dec. 5, 2009, when her second cousin, 6-year-old Logan Morrison, of Hayden, was being rushed to Denver for emergency surgery after complaining of a stomach ache for weeks.

Redstone plan moves forward in Hayden

Project would demolish, redevelop downtown Hayden motel

The owners of the Redstone Motel say they hope its redevelopment will be a great asset for Hayden’s downtown historic district. A site plan proposed by owners Gerenscer LLC, of Steamboat Springs, would demolish the motel, which is more than 60 years old. The lot consists of 16 rental units, a storage building and mobile homes.

Newly named Oak Street Dance Studio to host open house

Belly, ballet, modern, hoop, African and Jazzercise are among the types of dance that will be offered at an open house event Saturday. Those styles represent part of the offerings at the newly renamed Oak Street Dance Studio, formerly Northwest Ballet Studio. The open house and day of free classes Saturday is a chance to expose the public to the studio, co-manager Wendy Smith Mikelsons said.
