The Wounded Warrior program has been a part of the All Mountain Adaptive Ski Camp at Steamboat Ski Area in each of its five years, and in 2010, seven disabled veterans attended. Adaptive Adventures, which host the camp with Access Anything and Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports, is celebrating its 10th year.

BOCES board OKs budget cuts
Measure erases deficit left over from 2008-09 overspending
The BOCES board unanimously approved budget cuts Thursday to make up for a $44,632 deficit from the 2008-09 school year. Board President Brian Hoza said approving the budget deficit plan allows the Northwest Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services to focus on this school year and begin planning for 2010-11. Its financial troubles arose last fall when it overspent its 2008-09 budget by nearly $317,000.

Fort Collins band Futaba brings old-school funk to OTP
Group brings big horn section, full harmonies
Bass player Ean Smith joined Fort Collins funk band Futaba in May. At the time, the group was a lead singer who also plays trumpet, a guitarist and a drummer. Within a few months, the band ballooned, and Futaba comes to Steamboat Springs on Saturday as an eight-piece outfit with a four-man horn section.

Steamboat briefs: Hayden commission tables Kum & Go zoning request
The Hayden Planning Commission tabled a request Thursday from Kum & Go to amend the town’s historic downtown zoning district. The service station was scheduled to ask that the zoning district be amended to permit gas stations, paving the way for Kum & Go to relocate to and expand on a lot at the northwest corner of Walnut Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Steamboat Springs skiers place 6th and 8th at Deer Valley
Two Steamboat Springs skiers made their case Thursday for inclusion on the U.S. moguls Olympic team. Skiing at the Visa Freestyle International at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah, Steamboat’s Jeremy Cota finished sixth, and Mike Morse finished eighth.
Reckless Kelly to play free show Tuesday in Steamboat
Country concert is part of Cowboy Downhill festivities
Texas country rock band Reckless Kelly started hitting the road about 14 years ago. The quintet, led by brothers Willy and Cody Braun, toured around the Lone Star State, playing four-hour gigs to raucous honky-tonk halls. The band will play at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gondola Square after the 36th annual Cowboy Downhill.

The Oak Creek Town Board on Thursday declined to institute a moratorium or take other action regarding a potential medical marijuana dispensary in the town. The town’s Planning Commission is slated to take up the issue at 7 p.m. Wednesday and can make recommendations to the town board after the hearing.
Investigations ongoing in burglary, arson cases
Craig police still are following leads on a recent burglary at the Moffat County Courthouse, Sergeant John Forgay said. The courthouse was broken into Nov. 11, 2009, on Veterans Day, when staff was off work for the holiday.
