The Spring Creek Trail off Amethyst Drive will be closed for two weeks, starting today, for hazardous tree removal and fire break operations. Contractor Rogue Resources is scheduling more than a year for the entire tree removal project, which is planned on about 305 acres split among 30 units from the Spring Creek area to Storm Mountain Ranch at the base of Rabbit Ears Pass. The city of Steamboat Springs has received a $1 million grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Colorado State Forest Service for removal of trees that present a wildfire risk in the Steamboat area. Craig Robinson, of Steamboat Springs’ Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department, asked residents to respect the Spring Creek Trail closure.
“If you’re going for a walk, try to go somewhere else for the next two weeks,” he said Thursday.
