After years of running local banks, running on local streets and running a household, Jill Leary is about to slow down and take a breath. Jill Leary’s last day on the job is Friday. Wells Fargo is hosting an open house with refreshments from noon to 4 p.m. that day to honor Leary’s service.

Boys earn No. 1 seed for regionals

Redemption came Saturday for the Hayden High School boys basketball team, and it was sweet. The team took on top-ranked, undefeated Meeker High School at the Class 2A district tournament in Rangely and won, 63-58. Coach Mike Luppes was exultant as he described a back-and-forth game in which the Tigers kept their intensity up.

Olympic athletes are not unusual in Steamboat, where the next generation of world-class athletes always seems to be around the corner. For generations, our town has produced wave after wave of Olym­­­pic stars, including medal winners like Nelson Car­­­mich­­­ael and Travis Mayer in freestyle skiing and Shan­­­non Dunn in snowboarding.

With an already tight Hayden Police Department budget, Chief Ray Birch is looking for alternatives to fund programs and services. On Feb. 18, he presented two grant requests to the Hayden Town Council. The requests would provide the department with additional funding, enough for at least another full-time police officer.

Steamboat Springs City Council could approve code revisions for Realtors on March 2

The Steamboat Springs City Council is expected to vote Tuesday night on the final language in a revised sign code ordinance that would relax constraints on “for sale” signs for Realtors. Senior City Planner Jonathan Spence said this week the sign code revisions would allow slightly larger “for sale” signs, giving Realtors room to slip in name and phone number plates, sometimes called riders.

On the Market: State Realtors housing foundation offers grants

The Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors has announced that the Colorado Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Foundation is sponsoring a work force housing initiative and offering $100,000 in grants. Nonprofit and employer housing programs that support work force housing by offering down payment assistance to help workers buy homes in their communities can apply.

Commissioners open to 5-acre lots north, west of town

Routt County officials are moving ahead with a plan that would create the potential for 300 or more five-acre home sites on land around the northern and western parts of Steamboat Springs. The planning commission is scheduled to make a recommendation April 1 on the new transfer of development rights.
