No one injured in house fire near Milner

There were no injuries resulting from a fire that fully engulfed a home Monday night on U.S. Highway 40 just west of Milner. The home remained standing but appeared to suffer extensive damage.

Jimmie Heuga achieved immortality for helping to make U.S. ski racing history in 1964, but for those who knew and loved him, the memory of what he represented after his competitive career was over will be cherished even more. Heuga, 66, died at Boulder Community Hospital on Monday.

Winter Sports Club sells 1,000 more buttons than last year

Spectators lined Lincoln Ave­nue in downtown Steamboat Springs on Sunday morning for the street events during the 97th Winter Carnival. The 83rd Diamond Hitch Parade, a tradition that began in 1927 with the Ladies Recreation Club, followed the morning’s street events that included ring and spear, an obstacle course, street slalom, 25-yard dog dash, donkey jump and shovel race.

Deadline to sign up to vote on Steamboat 700 annexation is today

Today is the last day for city residents to register to vote on the fate of Steamboat 700, the proposed annexation on 487 acres just west of current city limits. On Feb. 15, the city and contractor Integrated Voting Solutions will begin sending ballots to registered voters for the all-mail election.

Steamboat briefs: Parks and rec staff set to hold Yampa River meeting

The city of Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center to discuss last year’s regulation monitoring, education and enforcement efforts on the Yampa River.

Flying Gelande Jumping Championships attract 15 contestants

When it comes to gelande Alpine ski jumping, Rolf Wilson is still the man with a jet engine in a world of propellers. Wilson, from Montana, faced some of the toughest competition he’s encountered in his run at the annual Pro Alpine Flying Gelande Jumping Championships on Sunday, but when he needed a big jump, he came up with it and won.

The Steamboat Springs Police Department could not release the name Sunday of the 51-year-old man struck by a car Friday evening because they have yet to contact his family, Detective Nick Bosick said. There were no new updates to the man’s condition Sunday, Bosick said.
