Steamboat Springs The results of an autopsy of Keith Dady confirm that the Steamboat Springs man died from the way he landed on the floor after a Dec. 4 scuffle with his friend and roommate.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office determined that Dady died because he could not breathe because of the position of his body. Dady, 37, died Dec. 9 in Denver.
Dady reportedly burst into the room of his roommate and friend Josh Burns in a condo on Columbine Drive, Steamboat Springs police Detective Nick Bosick said. Dady reportedly had been drinking, and he and Burns had a small fight, Bosick said.
When Burns threw Dady off him, Dady reportedly landed on his head, leaning against a bookcase.
Toxicology results from the autopsy, performed on blood taken at Yampa Valley Medical Center before Dady was flown to Denver, reveal that Dady had been drinking alcohol before the incident. Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg said Dady’s blood alcohol content was 0.24, or three times the legal limit for driving a car. Ryg said no other drugs were found in his system.
No charges have been filed against Burns, and Bosick said he would confer with the District Attorney’s Office to decide whether criminal charges are appropriate. Because the district attorney is busy with the assault trial of David and Eduardo Capote, that decision could be delayed.
