Friends and former teachers of Lucy Causley’s at The Lowell Whiteman School described her as positive, bubbly, energetic, exuberant, enthusiastic, compassionate, tolerant and inquisitive. Lucille “Lucy” Grace Causley, a 2009 Whiteman graduate, died in a Saturday morning fire in Gunnison. A freshman at Western State College, Causley was 18.

Steamboat Springs resident Dagny McKinley’s quest to bring extreme hugging to the Winter X Games fell a bit short of her goal. McKinley tried Thursday to set a Guinness world record for most hugs in a 24-hour period.

Colorado’s newest gondola opened to the public in a gentle snowfall Monday morning as Chris Wilson, a condominium owner at nearby Trailhead Lodge, ducked into the first cabin on the new Wildhorse lift, just down the hill from Steamboat Ski Area.

The city of Steamboat Springs collected about $3.2 million less in sales tax revenues in 2009 than it did in 2008, but the decrease falls within expectations and will not require reserve spending, a finance official said Monday.
