Colorado Ski for Women event nets nearly $4,000 for Advocates
This year’s Colorado Ski for Women theme of “Alice in Winterland,” a play on Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s tale “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” was evident as the participants donned costumes depicting their favorite characters Sunday at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center. All proceeds from the ninth annual Nordic skiing and snowshoeing event benefited Advocates Building Peaceful Communities, a Steamboat Springs organization that provides services for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault and education for local students.

Steamboat parking rules could change
City Council to discuss proposed increase in fines, extended hours
A proposed overhaul of city parking regulations would expand the hours of legal parking for most spaces along Lincoln Avenue and in downtown parking lots, but it also would increase fines for violations citywide. The Steamboat Springs City Council is scheduled Tuesday night to discuss parking regulation changes.

Steamboat Springs racers hold serve on Howelsen Hill on Sunday
Natalie Pearl and Katie Hostetler said they were excited with their results in Sunday’s slalom race, an event that capped off a weekend of racing on the SmartWool circuit in Steamboat Springs. Pearl, with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, won Sunday’s women’s race and her teammate, Hostetler, was second.

U19 team opens up with 8-0 win but loses in afternoon, 2-0
The seniors on Steamboat’s U19 girls hockey team didn’t close out their final home stand the way they wanted: celebrating a win. Instead, they had to settle for a split of Sunday’s two games while knowing that outside of a few small mistakes, they went punch-for-punch with a strong Colorado Springs squad.

An anonymous donor has offered to fund the first year of a proposed plan to buy Apple MacBook laptop computers for every Soroco High School freshman. South Routt School Board President Tim Corrigan said the Yampa Valley Community Foundation told him about the donor’s willingness to anonymously provide $7,500 to get the program up and running.

U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff is slated to visit Steamboat Springs on Tuesday as part of a regional tour that follows the addition of some well-known political names to his campaign staff. Romanoff is scheduled to meet with the public at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Artists’ Gallery of Steamboat at 1009 Lincoln Ave.
