Library to train volunteers with Spellbinders program
Spellbinders is a national nonprofit organization composed of intergenerational volunteers trained in the art of oral storytelling for school children. After attending a mandatory two-day training workshop, volunteers will be assigned a local elementary classroom to visit once a month over the course of the school year. This volunteer opportunity is a large time commitment consisting of approximately eight to 10 hours per month reading, learning, and telling stories.
The next training workshop is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 16 and Jan. 23 at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Participants must attend both sessions. The cost is $75, and the fee is waived if you complete the training and sign a commitment contract to tell stories in the schools at least six times per school year.
