2 injured in snowmobile crash near Steamboat

Steamboat Springs — A father and daughter who hit a tree while riding a snowmobile Sunday afternoon on Rabbit Ears Pass were taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Routt County Search and Rescue Incident Commander Kristia Check-Hill said.
Search and Rescue was called just after 3 p.m. Check-Hill said they responded at about 4 p.m. and were able to get the 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old daughter, who were visiting from the Denver area, to the hospital at about 6 p.m. She said they had to tow each of them individually in a patient sled behind a snowmobile eight to 10 miles back to U.S. Highway 40.
Check-Hill wouldn’t elaborate about the extent of their injuries. According to the page from Routt County Communications dispatchers, the man had an arm injury and his daughter had injuries to her shoulder and back.
“This was just a pure unfortunate accident,” she said. “They were doing everything they should have been doing. It was just an unlucky day.”
