— It was a welcome sight to Hayden High School wrestling coach Ty Camilletti.

With preseason hype followed by several weeks of wrestling with just a partial team, Camilletti and the Tigers finally were able to fill out most of a roster and show why many think they can contend for a state title in Class 2A.

Although the team still was missing several wrestlers, Hayden placed third as a team Saturday in Kremmling behind second-place Norwood and eventual champion Coal Ridge.

“They look like the team we were hoping to see for a while now,” Camilletti said. “It was good to finally get our team together and go down there and have some success.”

The Tigers wrestled well and ended up with three champions on the day. T-Lane Mazzola at 119 pounds, Chad Terry at 130 pounds and Treyben Letlow at 215 pounds all cruised through their brackets.

Hayden also got strong showings from Scott Armbruster at 135 pounds (third), Ryan Domson at 171 pounds (third) and Gage Webb at 145 pounds (fourth).

“I’m really proud of my kids,” Camilletti said.

Hayden returns to action Jan. 7 and 8 at the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah.

The tournament usually draws some of the top competition in the region.

“It’s like the state tournament but bigger,” Camilletti said.
