Steamboat Springs For the second straight weekend, the Hayden High School wrestling team took a small team to a tournament.
The Tigers fielded six wrestlers and finished 11th out of 12 teams Saturday in Delta. Hayden had five wrestlers break team rules and not make the trip.
“Our lapse of judgment is killing us,” Hayden coach Ty Camilletti said.
Hayden was paced by Chad Terry’s first-place finish at 130 pounds. Terry went 3-0 on the day, all of his wins coming by pin.
“There are very few kids who can keep pace with him right now,” Camilletti said.
T-Lane Mazzola finished fourth at 119 pounds, and Journey Freeman was sixth at 125 pounds.
Kaiden Decker, at 103 pounds, Scott Armbruster, at 135 pounds, and Nick DeLuca, at 160 pounds, all were winless on the day.
Hayden next competes Saturday in West Grand. Camilletti said the Tigers should field a full team for the first time this season.
“By the way we practiced (Monday), I think our team got our focus back and are serious again,” he said. “It will be nice to go to a tournament with a full team. We haven’t had a chance with that. I’m excited. I can’t wait for this weekend.”
