The Steamboat Springs High School wrestling team went 30-19 on the weekend, the team’s junior varsity athletes cashing in at a tournament in Rifle on Saturday after the varsity team’s strong showing in a pair of Friday night duals.
Josh Reynolds was second for the Sailors at the tournament at 145 pounds while Nick Rossman was third at 125.
For Rossman, a sophomore, the success is sweet as he’s only just returning to the mats after an injury kept him out a year ago.
“Really, it’s his first year of high school wrestling, but he’s ahead of schedule,” Steamboat coach Shane Yeager said. “He’s not wrestling like a freshman but like a very respectable sophomore.”
Nathan Mack, at 145, Nathan Parks, at 112, and Dane Koepher, at 135, also placed third.
The whole team returns to action Saturday for a tournament at West Grand High School in Kremmling.
