Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs High School wrestling team didn’t emerge unscathed, but it did come away from a pair of Friday night duals plenty proud. The Sailors, a non-factor in wrestling in recent years, beat Battle Mountain, 34-33, in a dual in Glenwood Springs. The team then took five of nine contested matches in a dual against Glenwood, though Steamboat lost the match, 50-27, thanks to a number of forfeited weights.
“The kids really wrestled well,” Steamboat coach Shane Yeager said. “All of them wrestled hard and fought well.”
Nick Rossman at 125 pounds, Casey Williams at 140, Josh Reynolds at 145, Nathan Mack at 160 and Cole Sittig at 215 all won twice. Brandon Yeager at 171 and Connor O’Brien picked up against Battle Mountain opponents.
The team returns to action today in a tournament in Rifle.
