Steamboat Springs Tabor and Tyler Scholl, of Kremmling, raced to titles at the 2010 AAU National Cross-Country Championships on Dec. 4 in Orlando, Fla.
The two runners have strong ties to the running and cross-country skiing communities in Steamboat Springs.
Tyler Scholl earned the title in the 3,000-meter boys race in the 10-year-old division. He finished the race in 10 minutes, 14.08 seconds to cross the finish line in front of California runner Timothy Sterkel (10:48.01) in second and New Jersey’s Steven Payne (11:05.64) in third.
His sister Tabor Scholl topped the 13-year-old division at the national championships. She finished the 4,000-meter race in 14:45.70, which was a personal best time she set a month ago at the AAU Colorado Districts in Brighton.
Tabor Scholl topped unattached runner Catherine Pagano, who was second with a time of 15:02.63, and third-place finisher Marin Warner with a time of 15:08.54.
The AAU National Cross-Country Championships were held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex of the Walt Disney World Resort. More than 1,360 athletes competed. The 10-year-old division had 145 athletes, and the 13-year-old girls division had 147.
