Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Youth Hockey Association will host the girls U12 and U19 divisions today through Sunday in the Adele Dombrowski Tournament. All games will be at Howelsen Ice Arena, and admission is free. Schedules and rosters for all teams are at www.steamboatyouthhockey.com.

Chamber: Lodging figures to see weekend increase
About 5,600 visitors could come to Steamboat Springs this weekend, a potential increase from the 5,000 guests on the corresponding weekend a year ago, according to the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association’s weekly lodging barometer.
The Chamber is projecting that hotels near the base of Mount Werner could be more than half full Saturday, with more than 40 percent occupancy downtown. Last weekend saw 3,900 visitors in Steamboat, an increase from the 3,500 visitors the Chamber had forecast. The Fly Steamboat winter air service program begins next week. The Chamber is projecting 6,600 visitors Dec. 18, 1,000 fewer than the corresponding weekend last year.
US 40 to close downtown for Merry Mainstreet event
Lincoln Avenue in downtown Steamboat Springs will be closed from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday to celebrate Merry Mainstreet, put on by Mainstreet Steamboat Springs.
The parade begins at 5 p.m. at Sixth Street and progresses west to Ninth. Family activities will be offered at Seventh Street after the parade, including a fruitcake throwing contest, a snowball throwing contest, holiday song trivia and pin the nose on Rudolph. No advanced registration is needed. Participants can “rent” a fruitcake for $1 or bring their own to throw.

Musical performers including carolers will be at Eighth Street and Lincoln Avenue after the parade.
Steamboat youth hockey team to skate at Avs game
The Steamboat Springs Mites hockey team will be skating during the intermissions at the Colorado Avalanche-New York Islanders hockey game at 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. For each ticket sold through the Mites, $5 will go back to the team. Council on Aging seeks centenarians for party
In May 2011, the Colorado Commission on Aging is considering having its annual Centenarian Celebration in Steamboat.
