Steamboat girls cruise in the Brenda Patch tourney
Saturday, December 4, 2010
For what Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball coach John Ameen called a roller coaster of a game, the result sure didn’t seem that way.
Steamboat opened its season Friday in the Brenda Patch Tournament in Roaring Fork, easily dispatching the host school, 50-29.
“We had good long stretches,” Ameen said, “and stretches of not being good.”
Steamboat led, 11-1, after one quarter and 27-15 at halftime before breaking the game open in the third quarter.
The Sailors were without starting point guard Sydney Bauknecht because of injury, but still were able to use their depth to get the win.
Hannah Moore led the way, scoring 25 points, and Tara Spitellie added eight.
Steamboat wraps up the tournament at 11:30 a.m. today against Basalt.
