Steamboat briefs: Chili Challenge seeks help before, during Sept. 5 event

Steamboat Springs The fifth annual Chuck Wagon Chili Challenge is seeking volunteers for before and during the challenge.
The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 5 at Eighth and Oak streets. Each volunteer will get a free taster kit to try unlimited chili entries. Call Tracy at 970-846-1800 or e-mail tracy@main

Booths available for Oct. 16 wedding expo at Depot Art Center
The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association has booth space available for the 2010 Wedding Expo on Oct. 16 at the Depot Art Center. Booths are $100. They are $25 for caterers serving food and can be arranged by contacting Meagan Coates at meagan@steamboatchamber.com or at 970-875-7003.
Open house for new arts program Tuesday evening
Join Hospice of Northwest Colorado, a division of Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, and the Steamboat Springs Arts Council to learn more about a new free program titled Creative Expressions: Exploring Life in the Midst of Change. An informative open house about the initiative will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rollingstone Respite House, 480 Rollingstone Drive. 2 will be honored at Doc Willett awards ceremony
The Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley will honor Dr. Jim Dudley as Health Care Professional of the Year and Steve Dawes as Community Health Care Advocate of the Year at the second annual Doc Willett Health Care Heritage Awards Ceremony on Wednesday at Strings Music Pavilion. A cocktail reception is at 7 p.m., followed by a ceremony at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at www.yvmc.org/docwillett.
The Tread of Pioneers Museum offers the “Doc Willett Quiz” through Friday at the museum at Eighth and Oak streets. Participants can enter to win tickets to the awards.
