Yampa River users to fix runoff damage to the C-Hole in Steamboat

Work could begin in October to repair the early summer collapse of the popular Char­­­lie’s Hole human-made water feature in downtown Steam­­­­boat Springs. Some speculate the damage was caused when boulders moved, likely because the sediment under­­neath them was eaten away by the river.

Steamboat schools begin classes; district sees increased enrollment numbers

The 2010-11 school year started Wednesday for the Steamboat Springs School District. Steamboat Springs Middle School Principal Tim Bishop said he was surprised by the school’s increased enrollment but called first-day figures very preliminary.

New terrace, umbrella bar will replace Bear River deck

A terrace and umbrella bar is one of several new ski area improvements announced by Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. on Wednesday. The Bear River Bar & Grill’s deck will be torn down soon. The work should be completed before the start of the ski season.

Steamboat golf struggles at Gypsum Creek

The Sailors struggled today to keep up low scores after a second-place finish earlier this week. Alan Capistron led the team with a 78. Isiah Forsyth finished with an 84, Patrick Weston shot an 85, and Sam Scheer and Zephyr Erickson both shot 90.

Jackson County communication severed after fiber optic line was cut

The Walden area mostly was isolated from outside communication Thursday afternoon because of a cut fiber optic line. Officials reported that residents in the area could call one another but could not call out of the area or reach 911 services.

Grill games: Upcoming event a tasty treat for all ages in Moffat County

Gathering around the grill is no foreign concept to Craig residents, but a national-level barbecue competition is something entirely different. Although the size of an upcoming barbecue event in Craig may be rare for the community, it will nonetheless be well done if organizer George Rohrich has anything to say about it.

Steamboat Shoe Market owners buy Lincoln Avenue space

Rick Petet, of Steamboat Shoe Market, confirmed this week that he and his wife, Linda, are the buyers of 908 Lincoln Ave. The Petets plan to open a second shoe store, Goodie 2 Shoes, in their newly purchased real estate, which is across from their current store at 907 Lincoln Ave.

Gov. Bill Ritter appoints Steamboat rancher Jay Fetcher to river group

A North Routt County rancher has been appointed to a task force charged with creating methods to resolve river access disputes. Gov. Bill Ritter named Jay Fet­cher on Monday as one of 17 members of the River Access Dis­­pute Resolution Task Force.

Irish Tenors trio member Anthony Kearns to perform in Steamboat

Exactly 301 guests will have the chance to see one of the world’s most famous tenors Friday night. Anthony Kearns, a founding member of the famed Irish Tenors trio that formed in 1998, will travel to Steamboat Springs to provide dinner entertainment at the second annual Freedom Conference.
