Steamboat Springs — Sandy Wisecup, the Oak Creek woman charged with 80 counts of animal cruelty, will next appear in court Sept. 21 after her arraignment was postponed Tuesday morning.

Wisecup is accused of neglecting the horses she keeps near mile marker 54 on Colorado Highway 131 in South Routt County. She was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning, but her Denver-based attorney reportedly had a family emergency, and the hearing was postponed. Routt County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Mellisa Baumgartner said animal control deputies continue to check on the horses.

Single event tickets sold out for Karl Rove speech

Tickets for only the dinner and speech by Karl Rove at this weekend’s Freedom Conference are sold out, organizers report. A few tickets for the whole conference, which includes Rove’s portion, still are available at www.steamboatinstitute.org. Tickets are $250, or $175 for attendees younger than 30.

Final 2010 grant proposal deadline is approaching

The Yampa Valley Commun­ity Foundation and the Steam­boat Ski and Resort Corp. Recreation Fund are soliciting grant pro­­posals for the second and final grant round of 2010. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. Sept. 15. Recipients will be announced and funded in early December.

Grants are available for any nonprofit organization in Routt or Moffat counties that falls within the following areas: environment, education, health and human services, recreation or art and culture that did not already receive funding from the June grant round.

Grant applications and more information are available at www.yvcf.org. VNA offers women ages 40 to 65 free cervical exams

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association has announced a program to reduce breast and cervical cancer mortality through the Women’s Wellness Connection. The WWC provides free breast and cervical exams and selected diagnostic services to women ages 40 to 65 who meet financial qualifications. The program targets women who have not had a mammogram or Pap test within the past year or women who have lost insurance or had an abnormal finding and need follow-up. Call the VNA at 970-871-7646.
