Candice Bannister: Thanks to library

— I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank and recognize the contributions of Jennie Lay and Bud Werner Memorial Library for bringing the Tibetan monks and their vibrant, ancient culture and traditions to Steamboat Springs. Jennie’s vision and creativity brings a diversity and culture to our town that is rare and needed. No matter your religious beliefs or opinions, experiencing other cultures and traditions helps us all grow and challenge ourselves individually and as a community.

So many residents, especially in this economy, cannot afford the luxury of foreign travel. This week, one only had to travel as far as the library in Steamboat Springs to experience an ancient culture from the other side of the world. The mandala, ceremonies and performance at Strings were incredible experiences. I hope everyone who witnessed the events was inspired to help free Tibet from Chinese occupation and continue exploring the vibrant cultures of the world.

Thank you, Jennie Lay and Bud Werner Memorial Library.
