Hayden homes can be had for less than $200 per square foot

Evergreen wins, 4-3, against Steamboat boys team Saturday

The Evergreen High School boys tennis team used the strength of four doubles wins to sneak away with a 4-3 win against Steamboat Springs on Saturday at the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs. It was a rare home loss for Steamboat, which still is playing with a mostly inexperienced group.

The drive out to South Routt on Wednesday to watch the Soroco High School football team practice proved the point that outside perceptions of programs generally don’t mean much. Many think it could be a tough year for football programs in Routt County. Along those lines, all three teams have a lot of questions to answer.

About 150 animals were auctioned Saturday including cattle, lambs, goats, pigs and poultry during the annual Junior Livestock Sale. The funds raised help the children save for college and pay for future 4-H projects.

Our View: Dog park plan should avoid multiuse areas

Any city efforts to expand off-leash dog areas should focus on parks and open spaces, not crowded multiuse trails where conflicts are more likely. After more than a year of trial off-leash programs at Spring Creek Park and a small section of Rita Valentine Park, the city appears ready to move forward with a more formalized off-leash plan.

Registration is open for the Steamboat Symphony Or­ches­­tra’s fall Education Pro­grams. Youth Orchestra, String Ensemble and Cello Choir Programs are offered for violin, viola, cello and bass players, youths and adults. Other instruments may be included in Youth Orchestra. Youth scholarships are available for participants younger than 20.

The Aspen Times reported Thursday that assessors and commissioners from six counties across the state, including three from the Western Slope, are participating in a task force formed by the state legislature to re-examine property tax policy that allows owners of expensive rural homes to value their lots at steeply reduced agricultural tax rates if they or an independent farmer realizes income from farming activity on open space in the developments.
