Steamboat Springs SmartWool and New Belgium Brewing want to treat Steamboat Springs to a free movie under the stars Sunday night at Howelsen Hill. But you’ll have to leave the children at home.
Sunday’s main feature, “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” is rated R, no one under 17 will be admitted. But that’s not such a bad thing. Proceeds from beer sales go to Routt County Riders.
“This is the second annual SmartWool Bike-in Movie, and we’re hoping it becomes a series. We had between 700 and 800 people last year,” SmartWool’s Event Marketing Coordinator Erin di Santi said. “We reached out to New Belgium because they have a six-date bike-in movie series in Fort Collins.”
Asked whether the choice of an R-rated movie was intended to reach a target demographic, di Santi said, “It’s for adults to have fun. It’s a good break for parents.”
Adults who plan to cycle to the cinema should choose a classic cruiser bike from their quiver Sunday night. The event begins at 8 p.m. with a 45-minute cruiser show-off contest. Winners can count on some SmartWool schwag.
The forecast for Sunday night is for temperatures to quickly sink into the 40s, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to dress in layers and bring along a SmartWool beanie, di Santi suggested.
