The U.S. Forest Service is offering free daytime access this weekend at areas including Fish Creek Falls, Dumont Lake and Hahn’s Peak Lake. There will be no parking fees for daytime use at U.S. Forest Service areas across the nation Saturday and Sunday.

Manager cites downtown construction as contributing factor
Bronwyn Rittner has managed Great Outdoor Clothing Co., 729 Lincoln Ave. in downtown Steamboat, for six years. She attributed the closing partly to the downtown construction. The store is closing after a locals appreciation party Sunday.
Angler found in North Routt County in serious condition in Denver
Craig Horlacher, the 57-year-old angler from the Denver area who was rescued in North Routt County on Thursday, remained at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver in serious condition, hospital staff confirmed Friday.
Steamboat police seek man in attempted kidnapping
Steamboat Springs police were looking for a man Friday who reportedly tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl in downtown Steamboat that afternoon. Officer Stuart Hutton said the man was described as Hispanic, in his late 40s to early 50s and wearing dirty, baggy jeans. He had no facial hair and spoke broken English.
