Noon whistle group seeks $500 more in donations
Mainstreet Steamboat Springs almost has raised enough money to buy and install a new noon whistle. The group has raised $5,000, but it needs another $500 because the location of the whistle must be changed from the proposed site in the snowmaking shed at Howelsen Hill. The new location will require more funds because of increased installation costs, running more piping and other additional miscellaneous costs. Costs are based on installation at the Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department building, according to a news release, but the final location will be determined at the Sept. 7 Steamboat Springs City Council meeting. Donations can be made to “Save the Whistle,” c/o Mainstreet Steamboat Springs, P.O. Box 774611, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477. For more information, call Tracy at 970-846-1800.
