It’s been a busy summer for Steamboat Springs cross-country skier Michaela Frias. She has spent days dryland training, logged hours on roller skis and traveled to the Regional Elite Group camp in Park City, Utah. And she has been invited to the National Elite Group training camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Tasha and Al Compos admit they picked a bad week to start their new business in Steamboat Springs. After the couple bought and renovated the Spill the Beans coffee shop on 13th Street, they held a grand opening party six weeks ago that coincided with the road repaving on Lincoln Avenue.

Craig man reaches 90 mph in pursuit
A 46-year-old Craig man led Routt County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a car chase that reached 90 mph on the west end of Steamboat Springs on Sunday evening, ending when the man drove off a 50-foot embankment and rolled his vehicle.
16-year-old boy dies in Yampa River
A 16-year-old boy died Saturday in the Yampa River behind the Kampgrounds of America in Craig, the victim of an apparent drowning. Jeremy Ashton, a Moffat County Sheriff’s Office investigator, said the boy was Craig resident Shannon Wenger. Wenger was with a group of friends who were walking through a tributary pond of the river on the Northwest Ready Mix property east of Craig, Ashton said.
2nd annual Lid Jam in Craig raises skate awareness in honor of late Shane Braselton
Breyden Clark, 11, and Samuel Walls, 10, walked to the event table filled with prizes Sunday at the Craig skate park during the second annual Lid Jam. They set their skateboards down and asked Lid Jam organizer Kenny Stacy if there were any helmets left. “You guys always need to wear these, OK?” said Stacy as he pulled out two of the last three helmets from under the table and handed them to the boys.

The Steamboat Springs School Board tonight will consider a motion to oppose three anti-tax ballot measures that will be posed to Colorado voters in November. The measures, Proposition 101 and Amendments 60 and 61, are citizen-led initiatives aimed at decreasing taxes and government spending.
