— Thanks, Mother Nature.

An announcement of when Haymaker Golf Course will tentatively open has been moved to Monday, thanks in part to recent storms with more showers predicted for the weekend.

Luke Brosterhous, head golf professional and director of instruction, said he met with the city Thursday in hopes of nailing down an anticipated opening day.

But after talking with the city and Haymaker superintendent Bill Whelihan, Brosterhous said they decided it was too early to pick a date.

He said they are considering May 1 as a potential opening date for the driving range. Although the range is clear of snow, Brosterhous said it’s still too wet to mow or pick up golf balls.

“This coming Monday we’ll evaluate what the weekend did,” Brosterhous said. “There’s a storm coming through, and we’re not sure how much more moisture we’re going to get. Monday see how much and then look at the seven- to 10-day forecast.”

The Haymaker Pro Shop will open Monday. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will sell punch cards and season passes.
